Just a heads up for anyone that may be able to get to the Grosvener Museum in Chester for a talk on John Gerard on 14th Jan 2009 at 2pm. The talk is free, such a pity its in the afternoon, had it been an evening talk I would have gone along.
Discover John Gerard, one of the most famous herbal writers, born in Nantwich in 1545 and a Master of the Barber Surgeons. Find out about medical beliefs in the 16th century, the herbs used for medicines, strewing, cooking and dyeing and the folklore and superstition surrounding them. You will also have the opportunity to explore various herbs and apothecary’s equipment and make your own tussie mussie to take away.
